A controversial academic is suing Sydney University for sacking him over his social media posts and teaching material that imposed the Nazi swastika over the Israeli flag, arguing the sacking was a breach of his rights to political opinion.
The National Tertiary Education Union is backing former political economy lecturer Dr Tim Anderson in legal action launched last week in the Federal Court against the university and its deputy vice chancellor Stephen Garton that alleges the sacking was unlawful due to protections around intellectual freedom.
