Hutchison wharves shut down over union insurance, automation

Hundreds of wharfies will strike to pressure Hutchison to introduce a union income insurance fund that is more than triple the cost of the union's own industry fund policy.

The Maritime Union of Australia has notified the stevedore that its workforce will stop work for 24 hours at Sydney's Port Botany terminal on Wednesday after enterprise bargaining spectacularly collapsed last week, despite parties believing they were close to settlement.
