Leaders are increasingly becoming “accidental counsellors” as Australia’s mental health burden worsens and employees become more comfortable discussing their problems at work.
Where managers were once advised to steer clear of employees’ personal lives, now they are expected to show an interest in them and offer support and guidance in the event of a problem.
