Hospitality backs lower-skilled visa category

Small businesses are concerned they could be shut out of the skilled migration system and are calling for a boost to lower-skilled visas to address severe labour shortages.

Hospitality groups backed NSW Treasurer Matt Kean’s call on Monday for a new visa category that targeted lower-skilled occupations and allowed for a wider pool of workers to tackle a projected shortfall of 304,000 workers in the state by 2025-26.
