CFMEU administrator takes on labour hire as industry model

The CFMEU administrator will continue to engage corruption buster Geoffrey Watson, SC, in his investigation of organised crime’s relationship with the union and initiate an even broader inquiry into whether labour hire should be the model for how the industry hires most construction workers.

Administrator Mark Irving, KC, released a statement on Tuesday that accepted Mr Watson’s preliminary findings and recommendations into the CFMEU’s Victorian branch, including confirming that bikies and organised crime had infiltrated the union and accepting the need for rigorous oversight of CFMEU enterprise agreements.
