BHP boss Mike Henry has warned that Labor’s workplace changes are setting the economy up for a new period of industrial disruption, just days after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese vowed to union delegates he would be judged on the government’s labour hire changes by voters, not business or the Opposition.
Standing by estimates that the Albanese government’s “same job, same pay” laws will add $1.3 billion extra a year to BHP’s costs, Mr Henry said after the group’s annual general meeting on Wednesday the laws threatened to cost the mining company, and the broader economy, significant productivity and competitiveness.
