Why no one wants to be a CEO any more

Burnout, scrutiny and liability have turned the top job toxic, and rising stars are opting out.

Ever since man invented the modern-day office, workplace culture has revolved around the authority and allure symbolised by one person at the top. But the halo once cast over this prime position – once bathed in power, prestige and permanence – is fading fast.

Today, many talented leaders see the CEO seat less as an opportunity and more as a burden. The young, capable and ambitious are trading power and privilege for peace and privacy, and this will have damaging consequences for economic growth and innovation.
