Qantas chairman warns directors of ‘dominant CEOs’ in board search

Qantas chairman John Mullen says directors should think seriously before joining the boards of companies led by founders or overly powerful chief executives, warning that their dominant personalities and successful careers can spook even the most seasoned corporate players.

The transport industry veteran and serial chairman will use a wide-ranging speech in Sydney on Tuesday to push back on the increasing compliance burden boards face and challenge directors against implementing policy fads if they do not really believe in them.
