For the second successive year, Scott Morrison is Australia’s most powerful person. The circumstances and the reasoning between this year and last, however, could not be more stark.

When the Australian Financial Review Magazine's Power panel met in August last year to discuss the 2018 lists, Malcolm Turnbull was ensconced in The Lodge. Just 22 days later, between the panel discussion and publication, Turnbull was gone, a result of a bungled coup that was supposed to have installed Peter Dutton as leader. Scott Morrison outsmarted them all.
