Universities rush to fill the skills gap in mining

When the Corrego do Feijao mine tailings dam collapsed in 2019, killing nearly 300 people, it was not only Brazil’s worst industrial disaster but a wake-up call for the global mining sector.
It prompted closer scrutiny of nearly 60 tailings failures in the past 20 years and led to the introduction of a Global Industry Standard on tailings management.
