By all accounts, artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting higher education on a grand scale, forcing educators to accept that setting homework in the usual sense is a moot point when AI can do the work in a fraction of the time.

Some universities believe using AI is ethically wrong. Others accept it’s here to stay and are working on new ground rules for the student cohort. The key sticking point is around the covert use of AI, which has the potential to fast-track degrees if abused by students in search of a shortcut to a degree.
