Flaws in the fix for universities

The Universities Accord is supposed to be a blueprint for Australia’s higher education sector, but there are more questions than answers about how its goals will be achieved.

Jason Clare regularly tells the story of being the first in his family to finish year 10 and why the path to university was – and still is – so significant for more boys from western Sydney.

It’s part of the education minister’s emphasis on the need for more students from poor families and disadvantaged areas as well as wealthier ones to get a university degree or other tertiary qualifications.
