A Sydney University academic who was sacked after refusing to take down social media posts of a lunch he attended in which one of the guests wore badges that said “Death to Israel” and “Curse the Jews” written in Arabic has won the right to appeal his case after Federal Court found mistakes in the original judgment.

Tim Anderson, a former lecturer in political economy, was sacked after refusing to remove the so-called “lunch post” and earlier Facebook post which included an image of a swastika superimposed on the Israeli flag.
