Investors working from the theory that bigger is better and therefore probably safer have been taught a lesson in 2016, with the largest capitalised stocks in the market falling faster and further than companies at the smaller end of the spectrum.

While the ASX overall has declined in value since the start of January, those declines have been felt the most among holders of large capitalised stocks.
