How to prevent your super going to the wrong people

“Absolute discretion” can mean anything but when it comes to distributing superannuation death benefits.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the adjective “absolute” means “not diminished in any way”.

What, then, are we to make of the fact that a trustee’s so-called “absolute discretion” to decide to whom a deceased member’s superannuation death benefit is to be paid is not total but subject to considerable limitation?
