According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the adjective “absolute” means “not diminished in any way”.

What, then, are we to make of the fact that a trustee’s so-called “absolute discretion” to decide to whom a deceased member’s superannuation death benefit is to be paid is not total but subject to considerable limitation?
