A quarter of listed Australian companies claim they have no material exposure to environmental or social risks, although it is “unlikely” they can back up these claims, a KPMG study has found.

The research comes as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission threatens to crack down on companies “falsely promoting environmental or green credentials”, warning that greenwashing runs the risk of denting investors’ confidence in the market.
