International money transfer disrupter TransferWise is beefing up its local team and appointing a board for the region, with chief executive Taavet Hinrikus keen to take advantage of the slow-moving big banks.

The local expansion comes as the volume of transactions being processed by the fintech disrupter leapt 53 per cent in a year.
