Every so often, scientists working on the generational project of building a quantum computer pop their heads out of the labs and cry out “Yep! We’re still at it!”

Overnight, scientists at Google Quantum AI did just that. They announced to the world they had made some progress on one of the myriad problems standing in the way of creating a useful quantum computer, which could still be decades away, if it ever gets built at all.
