When the public broadcaster’s bosses aren’t repeatedly kicking themselves in the groin or fumbling their defences to transparently unwinnable culture wars, it’s easy to forget the ABC actually does a lot of really good stuff that isn’t news.
Bluey, for one. The ABC’s commissioning of Brisbane’s Ludo production house and Joe Brumm to make the children’s show – now by some metrics the most popular kids’ program in the world – is legendary stuff. Pity about the fumble that means the broadcaster doesn’t get a cent from licensing, toys or broadcast rights. Those go to the Poms. Truly, a national disgrace.
