Teal Chaney vows to push Labor on stronger climate action
Kate Chaney, the incoming teal independent in the blue-ribbon Perth seat of Curtin, has confirmed she will push Labor to set more ambitious carbon emission reduction targets, labelling it one of her key goals.
After Liberal incumbent Celia Hammond conceded this afternoon, Ms Chaney said new, large oil and gas projects made climate action “more difficult”, amid tensions this week surrounding Woodside’s $16.5 billion Scarborough gas project in Western Australia following Labor’s election victory and the Greens’ balance of power in the Senate.
