Grace Tame’s year as an angry young woman
The 2021 Australian of the Year represents a generational baton-change for the women’s movement, in which neither generation really gets the other.
Pru GowardColumnistAmong women of a certain generation (i.e. mine), Grace Tame comes up regularly in discussion. In the beginning, it was enthusiastic support for her Australian of the Year speech, and the moving clarity with which she forensically detailed the grooming, which lies at the heart of the power imbalance in sexual abuse.
A very young, beautiful woman speaking with such frankness and boldness – well, it really was something.
