As the federal government puts together the final rules for its new national digital identity regime it will be forced to confront who will oversee what will arguably be the centrepiece of the digital economy.

The regulation of identity is a brand-new policy area for the Commonwealth and begs the question which portfolio will have oversight for ensuring a secure and trusted system.
