‘We should learn from history’: ex-general warns of climate wars

The world is facing the prospect of “climate wars” as global warming accelerates the risk of conflict over land and resources, one of Europe’s former top military commanders warns.

Dubbed the “climate general”, former Dutch defence chief Tom Middendorp chairs the International Military Council on Climate and Security. He is visiting Australia this week for talks with intelligence and defence officials, ambassadors, think tanks and non-government organisations about climate change.
