US, Australia drug dispute is holding up settlement of the Trans Pacific Trade Deal

Australia's refusal to cede to a US push for stronger intellectual property protection for drug makers was threatening a historic Pacific Rim trade deal covering 40 per cent of the global economy.

Trade ministers from 12 countries were forced to extend Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations into a fifth day in Atlanta over night, frustrating the Japanese delegation about an impasse between Trade and Investment Minister Andrew Robb and his US counterpart, Mike Froman.
