New Year’s Eve will run as usual in Sydney after a rail union backed down from planned strike action, saving Australia’s largest city from descending into chaos on one of the busiest days of the year.
Businesses and revellers had been worried about the threatened cancellation of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks due to a wage battle between the Rail, Tram and Bus Union and the NSW government.
