Labor lifts M&A fees and bolsters phoenixing crackdown

The Albanese government has lifted fees for company takeovers and ramped up pressure on business owners who engage in phoenixing and other dodgy tax behaviour.
The mid-year budget update released on Wednesday includes more than $360 million for the Tax Office to overhaul and modernise internal systems for tax administration and to boost penalties for black economy activities.
