The University of Melbourne has again been named the best Australian institution in an influential global ranking, but it slipped six places on last year as global forces and local politics buffeted the sector.
Overall, 25 of the 36 Australian institutions that made the QS World University Rankings 2026 fell in their position compared to last year.
