The late Australian playwright Alex Buzo liked to celebrate the art of tautology, and for a period from the late 1970s onwards ran an event known as the Australian Indoor Tautology Pennant, which celebrated gems uttered by public figures such as “I don’t want to sound incredulous, but I just can’t believe it”.
