Can Albo rescue aspiration from the left progressives?

When Mr Albanese pitched for the leadership he said Labor must focus more on creating wealth and jobs rather than relying on just taking from the rich.

Bill Shorten’s political career grew out of the moderate industrial wing of the Labor Party. After deposing two Labor prime ministers as a factional warlord, he sought to lead the nation with the help of hard-left industrial unions such as the CFMEU. He enveloped and united more of Labor’s tribes by moving to the left on a smash-the-bosses and tax-the-rich rhetoric. By contrast, Anthony Albanese is a creature of the party’s inner city progressive left. His mentor was Whitlam era Labor left-winger Tom Uren. He’s had his photo taken with ageing British revolutionary socialist Jeremy Corbyn. But he also draws inspiration and support from Paul Keating.
