The Albanese government has been strangely timid on a suite of digital safety issues, avoiding at every stage any serious attempt to make responsible businesses liable for poor safety design.
Big tech is the undoubted winner after Australia fell into line with its AUKUS partners, embracing a light-touch AI oversight regime and firmly locking the country into the US techno order.
Many forget that AUKUS is both a submarine and a technology co-operation agreement, and all three Anglo countries have resisted mandatory testing, transparency and accountability rules for the revolutionary technology.
