Factional ‘terrorism’ leaves post-Andrews Labor unity in doubt

A last-minute power play by Ben Carroll from Victorian Labor’s Right faction made him premier-elect Jacinta Allan’s deputy but has badly damaged party unity, insiders say. One MP described it as “act of absolute terrorism”.

Ms Allan was anointed Victoria’s next premier on Wednesday, replacing Daniel Andrews, but plans for Treasurer Tim Pallas to serve as her deputy hit a roadblock when Mr Carroll nominated to contest the leadership.
