Every Victorian will soon owe $25,000 of debt

State government debt for every Victorian has overtaken federal government debt per person and increased by almost 10-fold since before the pandemic, with Victorians owing $19,500 each on average.

The state net debt bill per Victorian is on track to exceed $25,000 by 2027-28, according to figures in a new report by the parliamentary budget watchdog in Canberra.
