Melbourne’s ‘urban wine’ scene is older than you think

Though it claims to be the first of its kind, the new CBD wine palace preparing to open in the Victorian capital joins a proud tradition of city-centric winemaking.

A new venue called Melbourne Winery is scheduled to open this month in the heart of the Victorian capital.

Promoted as “Melbourne CBD’s first ever urban winery”, it’s located on the ground floor of Ross House, a heritage-listed former warehouse on bustling Flinders Lane, and is the latest project from Barman & Larder, the hospitality group behind high-profile venues such as Mercato Centrale on Collins Street, Left Bank in Southbank, and Flour Child in St Kilda.
