Labor’s push to legislate an objective for the $3.3 trillion superannuation sector has reopened old wounds in one of Australia’s most heated policy battlegrounds.
For the second time in less than a year, Treasurer Jim Chalmers declared he was ending the decades-long “superannuation wars”.
And once again, he did so while simultaneously stoking the conflict by outlining a vision for the $3.3 trillion retirement savings system that would enrage old foes and act on the dreams of his labour movement heroes.
