'Viciously partisan': Rudd rules himself out for WTO

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd ruled himself out of contention for the top job at the World Trade Organisation after the Trump administration sought Australia's help to find a compelling candidate.

AFR Weekend reported on Saturday that US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer had spoken to Trade Minister Simon Birmingham about "finding a good candidate for the WTO director-general position" to replace Brazilian trade diplomat Roberto Azevedo who resigned unexpectedly last month.
