It was entirely predictable. Once the Israeli Defence Force started the task of destroying the ability of Hamas to commit atrocities in Israel and fire rockets at civilian targets, the activist political left in the West, antisemites and elements of the media would quickly turn on Israel. It’s not just foreign policy wonks like me who thought it was predictable, more to the point it was the Hamas political leadership.

Don’t assume the Hamas political leaders are impoverished simple people who one fine day thought they’d launch a brutal attack on the Israelis in order to drive the Israeli government to the negotiating table.
