Last week was a good one for Australia’s strategic interests. The visit by China’s foreign minister, Wang Yi, was well handled by the government.

Penny Wong said exactly the right thing. We’re happy to trade and collaborate with China, but we expect Beijing to adhere to international law and the rules-based international system, which they haven’t done in the South China Sea.
