Just 28pc of offices will meet major tenants’ climate needs

Fewer than 30 per cent of office buildings nationally meet the energy standard required by federal government and the country’s largest companies when they sign new leases, putting landlords of higher-carbon-emitting assets at risk of losing tenants and investors, experts warn.

There is a shortfall of offices nationally that meet the federal government’s demand from July to sign new leases only for offices that have a minimum energy rating of 5.5 NABERS stars, figures from the national rating scheme show.
