Expect COP27 to be about implementing climate targets

The three key areas for focus at the UN climate change conference will be about moving countries from “pledges to promises”, physical resilience and money.

The UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) kicks off in earnest this week in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with world leaders meeting for two weeks of climate negotiations.

This year’s meeting follows on from COP26 in Glasgow last November, when new emissions targets were set. COP27 will be about delivering and exceeding those targets, while communicating to the world that governments are also taking concrete steps towards implementation.
