Next week, Joe Biden, Rishi Sunak, Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron and newly minted far-right Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will make the trip to the Egyptian beach resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for this year’s annual UN climate summit. Australia will send Pat Conroy.

The junior minister for defence industry and international development and the Pacific seems like a genuinely nice and hard-working bloke. But it’s a bit like deputising Chief Clancy Wiggum.
