Coalition’s delayed climate targets ‘a big bet on an unknown future’

For someone who has spent a lot of time in the negotiating room at international climate conferences, Jonathan Pershing is remarkably cheerful.

The US energy policy veteran has his fingerprints on nearly every major climate achievement of the past two decades, from early attempts at global co-operation in the 1990s and 2000s to the major agreements struck in Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021.
