Australian mining delivered mixed messages in the ’90s, with relative decline in some areas, while others grew.
David Lee wrote in his book, The Second Rush, that Australian producers experienced a 16 per cent real decline in the price for their black coal during the decade. At the same time, Japan’s share of Australian mineral exports slipped, although it remained the biggest importer.
