Trade war could bring cheaper cars, appliances, clothes to Australia

Australian consumers could benefit from cheaper cars, appliances, clothes and steel from Asian suppliers that redirect their goods away from the United States, according to economists, who have urged the Albanese government to refrain from imposing overly protectionist “anti-dumping” levies.

A flood of products into Australia from overseas could help drive down consumer prices after years of high inflation and enable the Reserve Bank of Australia to cut interest rates faster.
