The Reserve Bank of Australia says its forecast for inflation to return to the mid-point of the target band by mid-2026 is at risk, indicating further delays could spark interest rate rises as soon as August.

Pushing out the timeline for inflation returning to the mid-point of the 2 per cent to 3 per cent target band risks embedding higher inflation expectations, which is unacceptable to the central bank’s board.
