RBA hoses down early-2025 rate cut hopes

The Reserve Bank board has signalled it is highly unlikely to cut the cash rate in either February or April, short of an unexpected downturn in employment, sharply eroding the possibility of lower interest rates before the next federal election.

The central bank on Tuesday said it had reviewed scenarios in which inflation declined materially more quickly than forecast, but revealed it would want to see a sharp decline sustained over more than one quarter.
