RBA edges closer to interest rate rise as inflation proves sticky

The Reserve Bank of Australia board is now only one more bad inflation report away from doing what it really doesn’t want to: raise interest rates before the federal election.

The consumer price indicator for May jumped to 4 per cent on Wednesday, up from 3.6 per cent in April and above market economist expectations of 3.8 per cent.
