NSW $1b extra aid ‘won’t break the bank’ after big pandemic spending
Economists say the NSW government’s $1 billion omicron business support package unveiled Sunday will not have a dramatic effect on the state’s coffers in a pandemic-induced era of big spending governments.
Treasurer Matt Kean and Premier Dominic Perrottet’s hopes for a surplus by 2024-25 also have not completely evaporated, with independent economist Saul Eslake and Deloitte Access Economics partner Chris Richardson saying it was still too early to tell if that was unrealistic.
