The government spent $500m on trade, but business sees no benefit

After four years of the government trying to streamline international trade, exporters say they are yet to see cost and time savings.

The federal government under both political parties has spent almost $500 million and four years attempting to streamline technology and regulatory systems for businesses engaged in international trade, but exporters say the project is yet to deliver any tangible cost and time savings.

The so-called simplified trade system experienced delays under the former Coalition government and has slowed to a crawl under Labor, industry participants say.
