JobKeeper was the centrepiece of the Morrison government’s massive fiscal support during the pandemic, and often the most controversial. Now an independent evaluation of the $89 billion wage subsidy and income support scheme by former senior Treasury official Nigel Ray has concluded that it worked in its core objective of reviving precious economic confidence at a moment when there was almost none to be had.
