Inflation forces workers to take on extra hours

Australians taking on extra hours to cope with cost of living pressures, along with an influx of low-skilled workers, may explain the sharp fall in productivity over the past year, the Productivity Commission says.

Labour productivity has declined by 6.5 per cent since March 2022, causing alarm among economists, given the importance of productivity for containing inflation and improving living standards.
